The past few days have brought us a brief respite from the heat of summer. Temperatures have dropped into the 90’s. After what has felt like weeks of 100 + temperatures, the 90’s are great. Overnight lows remain in the low 70’s and upper 60’s. I am glad we have a ceiling fan in our bedroom to stir the air. 🙂 Temperatures are forecast to return to the upper 90’s and 100 + by Saturday.
Our garden is doing well. All our vegetables are being grown in raised beds this year. We have six tomato plants, six pepper plants, green beans and some black beans (to harvest after the pods have dried on the plants), green onions, chives, basil, oregano, thyme, tarragon, parsley, mint, and chamomile. The peach tree is loaded. We have notched 2 x 2’s propping up the branches. The fruit will be ready in about a month. I will be busy canning soon. I have plans for salsa, sauce and paste from the tomatoes. I cut the peppers and put them in the freezer. I will dry most of the herbs to be enjoyed throughout the year. The peaches I generally can in a light syrup.
The raised bed near my front door. Alyssum, echinacea, dianthus, salvia, bellflower, and chrysanthemum.
