Our home is maybe a little different from the average. When we bought our five acres nine years ago there were some improvements already here. The driveway was in; the well and septic; power; and a 30 x 70 foundation that the previous owners had put in and had their mobile home on. Well, when they left so did the mobile home.
We had sold our home in the mountains and moved to the high desert. We lived in a fifth wheel trailer while we built a shop building on that foundation that was already in place. Not quite as easy as all that but that is the summary of the building project. Our plan was to live in the shop TEMPORARILY until we could build our house. Not wanting to go into debt, we are still waiting to build that house.
Now don’t get me wrong. The shop isn’t all bad. In fact, it isn’t that bad at all. It is a shop but it is presently our home (temporarily). We have area rugs on the floor; carpeting in some areas; vinyl floor covering in other areas. There is only one bathroom but then years ago many people only had one bathroom and several children. The walls are finished drywall. We have an open living area. One bedroom near the bathroom. Two rooms upstairs that our kids used until they moved out a few years ago. Storage is still a challenge but we manage.
I have recently decided to change the wall color and I recovered some pillows for the couch.
I believe you can take what you have and make it look nice and comfortable. There was a saying I heard years ago that says, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Hope you enjoy a few photos of my lemonade stand. 🙂
Have a great week. Try to find good in that which is around you.
(Several names came up taking credit for the quote: Elbert Hubbard, Dale Carnegie, Julius Rosenwald, and Homer E. Capehart. I hope that I have given credit to everyone that claims this as their own saying. If I left someone out, my apologies.)
